When the public first became aware of HIV through the media, we were told that it was an incurable disease and there was no hope for those who acquired it.
Now, we know that HIV is a treatable disease and people living with it can lead normal lives – but this message does not seem to have reached the masses. People remain scared of HIV, they believe they can catch it easily and this fear leads to discrimination.
It is misinformation like this that can do harm. The spread of HIV is preventable and we have the power to reduce the transmission rate.
We must make condoms and sexual and reproductive health information more available to people in order for them to protect themselves though safe sex, and end the discrimination that those affected face.

လူထုထဲ မီဒီယာ က တဆင့် အိတ်ချ်အိုင်ဗွီ အကြောင်း စသိကြတော့၊ ကျတော့်တို့ကို ပြောခံရတယ်။ ရောဂါ ကူးခံရသူတွေ အတွက် မျော်လင့်ချက်မရှိဘူး တဲ့။ ရောဂါက ကုရာနတ္တိဆေးမရှိတဲ့လေ။
အခုတော့ အိတ်ချ်အိုင်ဗွီက ကုလို့ရနေတာ ကျွန်တော်တို့ သိလာပြီ။ အိတ်ချ်အိုင်ဗွီနှင့် အသက်ရှင်သူတွေက သာမာန််လူတွေလို နေနိုင်တယ်။ ဒါပေမယ့် အဲ့ဒီ အကြောင်းအရာက လူတွေအုံလိုက်ကျင်းလိုက် အထိ မရောက်ကြ သေးဘူး ထင်တယ်။ လူတွေက အိုင်ချ်အိုင်ဗွီ ဆို ကြောက်ကြတုန်းပဲ။ သူတို့က သူတို့ အလွယ်တကူ ကူးခံရမယ်ပဲ ထင်နေတယ်။ အဲ့လို အကြောက်တရားက ပဲ ခွဲဲခြား ဆက်ဆံတာတွေ လုပ်လာကြတာ။
အန္တာရယ်တွေ ဖြစ်စေတာက အဲ့လို အချက်အလက် အမှားတွေ ကြောင့်ပါပဲ။ အိတ်ချ်အိုင်ဗွီ ပျံ့နှံ့တာဟာ ကာကွယ်လို့ ရတယ်။ ကျွန်တော်တို့မှာ ရောဂါကူးစက်နှုန်းတွေ ရပ်တန့်နိုုင်အောင် လုပ်နိုင်တဲ့ စွမ်းအား ရှိပါတယ်။
ကျွန်တော်တို့ လုပ်ကို လုပ်ရမှာက ကွန်ဒုံး၊ လိင်မှု နှင့် မျိုးဆက်ပွားကျန်းမာရေး သတင်းတွေကို လူတွေအတွက် များများ ရအောင် လုပ်ပေးရမယ်။ အန္တရယ်ကင်း လိင်ဆက်ဆံတာက တဆင့် သူတို့ကိုယ် သူတို့ ကာကွယ်နိုင်မယ်၊ ရောဂါ သက်ရောက်ခံတွေအပေါ်လည်း ခွဲခြားခံရတာတွေလည်း ရပ်တန့်သွားမယ် ယုံကြည်ပါတယ်။
Section 3A of the 1949 Act states that if you wear a mini-skirt or show cleavage, you can be arrested on suspicion of being a sex worker. Just look at today’s celebrities and how they dress – these laws don’t apply to them but discriminate against young, mostly poor women. Section 3B means you can be arrested for ‘seducing’ men, but in reality we know that clients themselves approach sex workers and negotiate the deal.
These laws simply don’t reflect the reality. Police use the legislation to threaten women with arrest at any time, wherein they are vulnerable to financial and sexual extortion to avoid prison.
The 1949 Act which persecutes sex workers and ‘potential sex workers’ must amended to PROTECT not PUNISH.
၁၉၄၉ ပြည်တန်ဆာ နှိပ်ကွပ်နှိမ်နင်းရေး ဥပဒေပုဒ်မ အခန်း (၃)/က အရ၊ စကပ်အတိုများ၊ လျှပ်ပေါ်လှော်လီစွာ ဝတ်စားဆင်ယင် ထားပါက လိင်လုပ်သားဟု ယူဆကာ အရေးယူ ဖမ်းဆီးနိုင်ပါသည်။ ယနေ့ခေတ် နာမည်ကြီး အနုုပညာရှင်များ၏ ဝတ်စားဆင်ယင်မှု များအား ထောက်ရှုခြင်းအား ဖြင့် ဤဥပဒေသည် သူတို့နှင့် မသက်ဆိုင်ဘဲ ငယ်ရွယ်၍ ဆင်းရဲသား အမျိုးသမီး အများစုအား ခွဲခြားနှိင်နှင်းရန် အလို့ငှာပင်ဖြစ်သည်။ ပုဒ်မ အခန်း (၃)/ခတွင်မူ၊ အမျိုးသားများအား ဖြားယောင်းသွေးဆောင်မှုဖြင့် ဟူ၍ ဖမ်းဆီးနိုင်ပါသည်။ သို့သော်၊ လက်တွေ့ဘဝ၌မူ၊ ဖောက်သည်များသည်သာလျှင် လိင်လုပ်သားများထံသို့လာရောက်ကာ စျေးညှိနှိုင်းမှုများပြုလုပ်လေ့ရှိသည်။
